Non-Revenue Passenger

A Non-Revenue Passenger (NRPAX) is a person who occupies a seat on an aircraft without having purchased a ticket at the standard fare. Non-revenue travel is a major benefit in the airline industry.

  • Airline employees: Travel on standby (space-available) as a job benefit
  • Buddy passes: Passes given by employees to friends/family
  • Interline agreements: Employees of partner airlines traveling on another carrier
  • Positioning crew: Crew members deadheading to their next duty assignment
  • Must-ride passengers: FAA inspectors, air marshals (have priority over standby)

Non-revenue passengers board after all revenue passengers and are subject to dress code and behavior policies set by the airline.
