Marshaller

Marshaller is a ground crew member who guides aircraft to their assigned parking position using standardized hand signals or illuminated wands. Marshallers stand in front of the aircraft and communicate directions (turn left, turn right, slow down, stop) to the flight crew through visual signals.

ICAO defines standard marshalling signals used worldwide. At modern airports, many gates use automated docking guidance systems (A-VDGS) displaying visual cues on an electronic board, supplementing or replacing human marshallers.
