IATA

IATA (International Air Transport Association) is a trade association representing approximately 300 airlines worldwide. Headquartered in Montreal with an executive office in Geneva, IATA focuses on airline industry standards, operations, and commercial frameworks.

IATA assigns three-letter airport codes (JFK, LHR, GRU) used commercially, distinct from ICAO four-letter codes used in flight operations. IATA also manages the Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) for ticket sales, dangerous goods regulations (DGR), and standard airline scheduling codes.
