Empennage

Empennage is the tail section of an aircraft, comprising the horizontal stabilizer, elevator (or stabilator), vertical stabilizer (fin), and rudder. The empennage provides stability and control around the pitch and yaw axes.

Configurations vary: conventional (horizontal tail at the rear), T-tail (horizontal stabilizer mounted atop the vertical stabilizer), cruciform, and V-tail designs each have different handling characteristics.
