Electronic Flight Bag
An Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) is a portable electronic device (typically a tablet) used by flight crew to display aeronautical charts, approach plates, aircraft manuals, performance calculators, weather data, and operational documents that were traditionally carried as paper.
- EFB Class 1: Portable device (iPad), not mounted — most common today
- EFB Class 2: Portable but mountable, with aircraft data connection
- EFB Class 3: Installed (built into the aircraft avionics suite)
- Major platforms: Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro, Lido mPilot, ForeFlight
- Reduces cockpit paper weight by 15–20 kg per flight
- Must be approved by the aviation authority for operational use
- Battery management and backup procedures required
