Blast Fence
Blast Fence is a safety barrier typically made of metal or concrete erected near runway ends, taxiways, or engine run-up areas to divert jet blast and propeller wash upward and away from other aircraft, vehicles, buildings, or people. Large engines can produce blast velocities exceeding 300 km/h.
- Perforated metal designs redirect blast while reducing wind load on the fence
- Essential at airports where taxiways or roads are close to runway thresholds
- Protect following aircraft, vehicles, and airport personnel from dangerous jet exhaust
- Also reduce FOD (Foreign Object Debris) risk from blast-propelled objects
