Bearing

Bearing is the horizontal direction from one point to another, expressed as an angle from north (0/360 degrees) measured clockwise. In aviation, bearings are used extensively for navigation, approach procedures, and radio navigation.

  • Magnetic bearing: Referenced to magnetic north
  • True bearing: Referenced to true (geographic) north
  • Relative bearing: Referenced to the aircraft nose (0 degrees straight ahead)
