Autobrake

Autobrake is an automatic braking system that applies wheel brakes at a pre-selected deceleration rate after the aircraft touches down. It ensures consistent braking regardless of pilot technique and is essential for operations on short, wet, or contaminated runways.

  • Settings range from LOW (long runways, dry) to MAX/RTO (rejected takeoff)
  • Activated after weight-on-wheels sensors confirm touchdown and spoilers deploy
  • Can also be armed for rejected takeoff — applies maximum braking automatically above a set speed
  • Pilot can override by pressing brake pedals harder or releasing the system
  • Reduces pilot workload during the critical landing rollout phase
