2004

The new Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport opened on 5 August 2004 in Huadu District, replacing the old Baiyun Airport that had operated since the 1930s inside the city.

2010s
2018

Terminal 2 opened in April 2018, and Guangzhou became the primary hub for China Southern Airlines — the largest airline in Asia by fleet size and passengers carried.

2019

Baiyun Airport surpassed 73 million passengers in 2019, making it the busiest airport in southern China and the third-busiest in the country after Beijing and Shanghai.
