Viracopos
A Journey Through Time
1960 — 2019
Aeroporto Internacional de Viracopos opened in 1960 in Campinas, São Paulo. It initially served as an alternative to Congonhas for international flights too large for the downtown airport.
The airport became Brazil's second-largest cargo hub and underwent a major expansion for the 2014 World Cup, opening a new passenger terminal with capacity for 14 million travellers.
Viracopos became the largest cargo airport in Brazil by volume, handling over 250,000 tonnes annually — a strategic position driven by its proximity to São Paulo's industrial corridor.
