Aeroporto Internacional de Sao Paulo/Guarulhos opened on 20 January 1985 with two passenger terminals, built to replace Congonhas as the main international gateway to Brazil.

2010s
2012

Terminal 3 opened in 2012 ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, adding capacity for 12 million passengers per year and featuring a modern design with natural lighting throughout.

2014

The airport was officially renamed Aeroporto Internacional de Sao Paulo/Guarulhos - Governador Andre Franco Montoro in honour of the former governor of Sao Paulo state.
