Pinto Martins
A Journey Through Time
1966 — 2020
Aeroporto Internacional Pinto Martins opened in 1966 in Fortaleza, named after the Ceará-born aviation pioneer Euclides Pinto Martins, who participated in the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic.
A new passenger terminal opened ahead of the 2014 World Cup, transforming Fortaleza into the main gateway for tourism in northeast Brazil, with direct flights from Europe and the Americas.
Fraport Brasil assumed operations in 2020, investing R$1.5 billion in modernisation. Fortaleza's proximity to Europe and Africa makes it strategically important for transatlantic routes.
