1970s
1979
Chiang Kai-shek International Airport opened on 26 February 1979, replacing Taipei Songshan for international flights. It was Taiwan's first purpose-built international airport.
2000s
2006
Terminal 2 opened in 2000, and the airport was renamed Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in 2006, reflecting the democratisation of Taiwanese society.
2010s
2017
The Taoyuan Airport MRT opened in 2017, connecting the airport to Taipei Main Station in 35 minutes after more than two decades of construction delays.
