Honolulu Intl
A Journey Through Time
1927 — 2017
John Rodgers Airport opened in 1927 on a coral reef in Honolulu Harbor, making it one of the first airports built on reclaimed land. It was named after a naval aviation pioneer.
Honolulu became the crossroads of the Pacific as widebody jets enabled nonstop flights from the US mainland and Japan. The iconic open-air terminal design embraced Hawaii's tropical climate.
The airport was renamed Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in honour of Hawaii's longest-serving senator, a Medal of Honor recipient and champion of Hawaiian statehood.
