Ben Gurion
A Journey Through Time
1936 — 2004
Lydda Airport opened in 1936 during the British Mandate for Palestine, built by the RAF as a military and civilian facility on the road between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
After Israeli independence in 1948, the airport was renamed Lod Airport and became Israel's primary international gateway. It was later renamed Ben Gurion Airport in 1973 after Israel's founding prime minister.
Terminal 3 opened in 2004, designed by Moshe Safdie and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. It features some of the world's most advanced security systems, which have been studied and replicated by airports globally.
