1937

Prague Ruzyně Airport opened on 5 April 1937, designed in the functionalist style. It became a strategic military airfield during World War II under German occupation.

2000s
2006

Terminal 2 opened for Schengen flights in 2006 as Prague became one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations following the Czech Republic's EU accession.

2010s
2012

The airport was renamed Václav Havel Airport Prague in honour of the playwright, dissident, and first president of the Czech Republic, who died in 2011.
