Budapest Ferihegy Airport opened in 1950, replacing the pre-war Budaörs Airport. It served as the sole international gateway for Hungary throughout the communist era.

2000s
2005

Terminal 2B (the new SkyCourt) opened in 2005, designed by Marcel Breuer's firm. Budapest became a booming base for Wizz Air, Europe's fastest-growing ultra-low-cost carrier.

2010s
2011

The airport was renamed Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in 2011, the 200th anniversary of the birth of the famous Hungarian composer and piano virtuoso.
