1974
DFW International Airport opened on 13 January 1974, built on 17,000 acres of prairie between Dallas and Fort Worth. It was the largest airport in the world by area at the time.
1980s
1981
American Airlines moved its headquarters to DFW in 1979 and built it into a mega-hub, creating the dominant hub-and-spoke operation that would define US air travel for decades.
2000s
2005
The Skylink automated people mover opened in 2005, connecting all terminals in a 5-mile loop. It was the largest airport train system in the world at the time of completion.
